Hi, my name is Lorraine, 20, a college student majoring in Business Education and a single mother of a 3yr old boy and expecting another boy in May. I'm seeking a well paying job that will work with my schedule and provide a steady income. I should be receiving child support for my son but haven't received any for many months. Right now, I'm relying on what's left from my income tax. The 'Money' section of this website has really helped me a lot, getting me in the habit of writing down expenses and following my budget (also created from this site). My son and I are currently living with my grandmother, and with no means of transportation, so we ride the city transit everywhere we need to go, and lately Texas weather has been terrible. Also, I have no source of reliable child care which has me on edge for when my second son arrives and I need to work or attend school. Even though my classes are online, twice a week I have an on-campus class for 1 hour and 15 minutes. My grandmother has been my child care provider for me when I go to school but has developed sever arthritis in her hands and body. I'd really love to hear any advice or suggestions that could help my situation.

Lorraine, it sounds like you're working really hard! First of all, you should be very proud of yourself for all of the things that you're juggling. Second, check out our new tool BeeLocal - http://beelocal.thebeehive.org/. BeeLocal helps you find local resources in your area, and I bet you can find good childcare options through the site. Like the YWCA to name just one option: http://beelocal.thebeehive.org/ywca-womens-resource-center/10469/dallas/.... And third, have you thought about working from home? Search Monster, LinkedIn, Craigslist, and other job listing sites and type in the word "telecommute". That'll help you find jobs you can do from home. Just be careful to avoid work-at-home scams: http://jobsearch.about.com/cs/workathomehelp/a/homescam.htm. I really hope this helps! Let us know how it goes. Good luck!

As we observe nowadays many college graduate students are unemployed, It's difficult for them to get job unless they have the courage to take advantage of the requirements as easy as they could without getting too much time and money ,College graduate students don't have an easy road ahead when it comes to employment.

»
I agree, I graduated college in 2004 but did not take advantage of internships or training programs because I was supposed to go to the active army. Well I ended up staying in the national guard and most jobs I applied for wanted experience which I didn't have. But working at a McDonald's or a minimum wage job is not that bad. That gives experience in areas like customer service and retail and there are opportunities for advancement in many places. So to every college graduate not being able to find work, I know it may be humiliating but try a minimum wage job at a McDonald's or a retail store like Radioshack or even a store like Walgreens or Rite-Aid.It is a fun environment and gives you experience and advancement potential.

I worked in the golf course industry here in South Florida for 14 years! The last place I worked at for almost 9 years. Never had problem until a new supervisor came and he fired me last year for taking my wife to the hospital. It was illegal so the DOL got my job back. This year he did it again! This time he fired me for not working OT because my wife hurt herself and I had to go home. I never take days off and worked everyday, not even my vacation. I tried to get it back this time and had to file with the EEOC. They are a joke! Everybody is a joke! I have done it all. Job hunting, vocational rehab, unemployment job bank..et al. NOTHING! My unemployment is ready to run out and I have no job! Somebody please help me! I will do anything! SCRUB FLOORS! WASH toliets! I am not proud anylonger! I dont want to live in a tent in the woods!

Is anyone else having a hard job finding work in Ct. I spend a few years taking care of an ill parent and now cannot find work anywhere. I have many years of retail experience and also customer service experience. Can anyone help with suggestions?
»
Hi Frankie, I have the same situation.I was deployed and came home early because my Father was in the hospital and was not doing well; he had a light stroke and fell; causing brain clots to form in his brain.Well at the same time my Mother bcame very sick and found out she had liver and kidney failure.I had money saved up so I helped out with things. My Father got better and then had to have open heart surgery shortly after.Things have been rough and I know the feeling.I have been trying to find a job for over 6 months and did get one offer but the recruiter for some reason stopped contacting me; I even called to set up an appointment and after several attempts nothing ever happened.I am not in CT., but USA Jobs or Snag a Job are good sites.I get email messages with customized job alerts in my email from snag a job all the time, but were I stay barely anyone is hiring. Hope this helps out.

Hi All, I am a recent college grad as of August 2010. I am currently looking for great employment that's beneficial and money making within my area. I graduated with a degree in Gender and Women's Studies. Eventually, I plan on working in a field within my major that offers tuition reimbursement while allowing me to go back to school to obtain my RN at a community college and then furthering my education in order to become a Women's Nurse Practitioner. But, first, I need to get a job in order to pay off my student account from my recent University as well as help me pay off some need based bills. Do you think any of you know about any government or non-profit agencies that are hiring currently? Please, let me know.

Hi, my name's Samantha and I'm looking for a barista job. I'm willing to learn anything about the coffee business. I've been reading about coffee, how it's made and such. I'm very eager to learn about the coffee business and doing as much research as I can at the moment. I love learning and doing new things with my life and future. I have already created my own new kind of coffee, it's like a mocha, but slightly different and more chocolatey. Which I love about it and I would love to use that in a coffee shop or something in the future. I would love to have my own cafe business in St. Johns. I'm working for my future.

Nakesha,
First, I would encourage you not to give up! Try visiting your local Career One Stop Center and see if they can help you with your resume. Also, you should start networking. Ask the people you know if they can refer you to a job opening. You can even call your previous employers and see if they can help.

Hi my name is Tahita and I would love to find help finding a job because I hate not working i've been unemployed for a month now and it is driving me crazy. please help

»

Tahita,
It's a very tough job market right now. Make sure that your resume is up-to-date and reflects your best skills and experience.
Apply for jobs online and in person. Sometimes using your personality instead of just your resume will get you a job. Use your network. Ask your friends and family if they can refer you to a job opening. While you're unemployed, see if you qualify for unemployment benefits. This will hold you over until you find another job.
